"Various regions in Indonesia have a diversity of cultures and traditions that we must always preserve as the main foundation that can strengthen national unity and integrity," said Nyoman Shuida Deputy for Culture Coordination, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) in his office.
In addition to being preserved, various cultures and traditions owned by Indonesia must also be respected. This respect is quite important so that every community can carry out its customs and traditions.
"Besides we must respect the diversity of customs, traditions and culture of the Indonesian people, we must also be grateful because with this diversity, our country can continue to unite and live side by side," he explained.
Indonesia's diversity is a necessity that must also be managed well. This diversity can also be an added value, especially in the Indonesian tourism sector which can directly contribute to improving the welfare of its people.
"Cultural security that is owned by Indonesia is a necessity. Good management of this diversity is the main thing that must be done in mutual cooperation between the government and the community because it is one of the elements that support the progress of the tourism sector in Indonesia, "explained Nyoman.

In addition, the form of respect and preservation of culture and traditions in Indonesia is a form of implementation of the mental revolution movement, the United Indonesia Movement. In this regard, Nyoman encouraged the entire community to practice the United Indonesia Movement.
"This diversity is the key to the unity and integrity of the Indonesian people and is the main foundation for the sustainability of our country. The United Indonesia Movement is something that must be carried out by the people so that this diversity can become a binding unit for the unity of people in Indonesia, "he said.
Factors That Cause the Diversity of the Indonesian Nation
The diversity of the Indonesian nation can be shaped by the large number of ethnic groups living in the territory of Indonesia and spread over various islands and regions. Each ethnic group has its own characteristics and characteristics in social and cultural aspects. According to the BPS statistical agency research, which was conducted in 2010, in Indonesia there were 1,128 ethnic groups. The diversity that exists in society, can be a challenge because it is because people who have differences of opinion can get out of control. The emergence of feelings of regionalism and excessive tribalism and accompanied by actions that can damage the unity, it can threaten the integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia. Because of that there is an effort to be able to realize harmony can be done by using dialogue and cooperation with the principles of togetherness, equality, tolerance and mutual respect for each other.

The diversity of Indonesian society is caused by several things, including the following:

Strategic location of Indonesia
The condition of the island nation
Difference in natural conditions
Transportation and communication
Community acceptance of change

Ethnic and cultural diversity

Culture has universal characteristics. That means that there are various common traits that are inherent and united in every culture that exists and is produced. Some of the universal characteristics of these cultures include:

Culture belongs to the nation
Culture is the result of learning
Culture is based on symbols
Culture can be integrated
Culture can be adjusted

Culture is relative and relative
In a culture there is also a pattern of behavior that is commonly called the patter of behavior which is the way of society.

Diversity of Religion, Belief and Race in Indonesia
This diversity is influenced by the geographical location of the international trade routes. Supporting abundant natural resources and needed by other nations, foreign trade came to Indonesia. In addition to conducting trade activities, they also spread the teachings of religion and beliefs they believe in, namely Hinduism and Buddhism, brought by Indians who have been trading with Indonesia for a long time, then following the Gujarat traders to spread Islamic teachings. The arrival of Europeans brought Christianity and Catholicism, while Chinese traders embraced Kong Hu Chu's religion. Various religions were accepted by the Indonesian people because previously the community was already familiar with beliefs like animism and dynamism. Also the open nature of Indonesian society accepts other cultures.

Racial Diversity Some experts have different opinions about the notion of race, but usually race can be interpreted as a large group
humans who have the same physical characteristics. One human has racial differences with other humans because of differences in physical characteristics such as skin color, hair color and shape, body size, body shape, shape and color of the eyes, and other physical characteristics. Indonesian society has racial diversity due to the presence of foreign nations into Indonesian territory, the history of the spread of race in the world, the geographical location of Indonesian territory. Some races in Indonesia, such as the Malayan-Mongoloid race, are scattered in the regions of Sumatra, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi. The second is the malanesoid race which is spread in the regions of Papua, Maluku and NTT. The three Asiatic mongoloid races such as Chinese, Korean and Japanese. This race lives and spreads throughout Indonesia, but sometimes inhabits certain areas. Finally, the Caucosoid race, namely Indians, the Middle East, Australia, Europe and America.

The Importance of Understanding Diversity in Indonesian Society
Have you ever traveled to other islands or regions in the territory of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia? Try to share your experience when visiting another island or another area where you live in front of the class.
Now, by knowing the islands or regions in Indonesia we can find out regional and socio-cultural differences in Indonesian society.
The territorial aspect explains, that the territory of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia is an archipelagic country with thousands of small and large islands in it. One island to another is separated by a vast expanse of sea. Such regional conditions make separation between one part of the state territory with another state territory in the Indonesian state. In addition there is also a great distance between the center and the region. Carried by this regional condition, all parties must realize that the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia is prone to disintegration. Another fact shows that the government is faced with the problem of a region that wants to separate from the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

The socio-cultural aspect explains that Indonesian people are colored by various differences, both ethnic, racial, religious, cultural and linguistic differences. Such social and cultural conditions make the life of the Indonesian people save the potential for conflict. The fact also shows that in the life of the Indonesian people conflicts often occur between groups of people which are motivated by these differences. Until now, the conflicts that occurred did not cause divisions in the life of the Indonesian people. However, such reality needs to make the attention of all parties in order to maintain the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation to be maintained.
For these two reasons, it is important to understand diversity in Indonesian society aimed at promoting and maintaining the unity and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. Without awareness of the diversity that we have, the Indonesian nation could have fallen into disunity.
The diversity of Indonesian society has both positive and negative impacts on themselves, society, nation and country. Positive impacts benefit development and progress, while negative impacts result in disharmony and even destruction of the nation and state. The diversity of ethnic groups, cultures, races, religions, and gender is an attraction for foreign tourists to visit Indonesia. We not only have natural beauty, but also beauty in the diversity of Indonesian society.
Differences in the school environment also have benefits for students, teachers, and schools. Imagine if at all times all students and teachers always had the same opinion, the same way of wearing, the same way of speaking. Then school life will be "monotonous or tasteless". Creativity and innovation will further develop if possible differences of opinion, thinking, and creative.
The way to maintain existing diversity is to instill an attitude of mutual respect and respect for diversity that exists

2 mutual tolerance between human beings

3 mutual help between humans experiencing disaster or difficulties

4. Mutual relationship and not discriminating between friends who are different from us

5. Mutual cooperation for the common interest between the existing diversity

Discussion
Indonesia is known as a country that has a lot of cultural diversity and various shades of religion, but we should not make it an obstacle to get along, we must continue to get along even though there are many differences between us to achieve a unity so that the Unitary Republic of Indonesia can have a great diversity. geographical background of the previous cultural nations of the West who entered Indonesia and much more

Other languages
With so many differences we have to cooperate with each other, for example, we may not instill the wrong ideologies such as ethnicism and others, but in the heat of the attitude of nationalism and others.

Other notes
Indonesia attaches great importance to unity towards diversity. This is marked by the motto of our country, unity in diversity which means that although it is different but still one
